A stove-prepared breakfast can be a hassle when time is limited. As a result, dishes like slow cooked oats are often overlooked on busy mornings. Rather than cutting out oatmeal as a contender for your morning meal, try one of these quick preparation methods:

Method 1:

Make use of the microwave. Mix oats and flax seeds in a bowl. Add twice as much water, for a 2:1 dry-to-wet ingredient ratio. Cook oats in the microwave for 2-3 minutes, depending on the strength of your appliance. When cooked, stir in regular, soy or almond milk, blackberries for vitamin C, and walnuts for good fats and protein. Ready to eat in 5 minutes total.

Method 2:

Soak your oats in yogurt overnight. Keep the 2:1 ratio of oats, flax, nuts, and dried fruit (dates, raisins, or cranberries are good choices), to plain yogurt. Mix well and leave in the fridge overnight. In the morning, the oats will have soaked in the yogurt and you’ll be left with a soft muesli. For rushed mornings, prepare your muesli mixture in tupperware or jar the night before, making a healthy grab and go breakfast.

Warm or cold, these quick oat recipes will keep you fuelled and on time.

Quick Tip: For variety, top your oats with in-season fruit, nuts or seeds. Add cinnamon as a finishing touch.
